In-laws in town for a night or two. Brought Cooked Dinner! And homemade cheesecake. And bread.
Yum. Stuffed. Sleepy.
Now here, trying to finish paper and ignore latest NHL hockey trades. And the kiss-ass Oscars are on tonight as well.
Oh my. Coffee please, it's gonna be a late one!

NL Blog Roll
For anyone interested to viewing other blogs with NL writers, I have added the NL Blog Roll.....for your perusal. hehe I still need to get the pic working. sigh
To save space it is formated in a box, so put the cursor over the list and scroll up and down. I haven't checked most of the links (duh, my paper) but there are a few interesting ones.
Enjoy

Procrastination
I am really, really bad at putting things off till the last minute. I still manage to produce decent work, but I then question myself, "Why dude, why?"
MASSIVE paper due tomorrow. Needs to be posted online for classmates to read and discuss, and then I have to respond to their comments. That will keep me on my toes!
Back at it.

Snow & Neighbours
Sh*t. What a storm. Last night the winds were so strong I thought I was back in Churchill. The power went out for 12 hours for some of the houses on our street. And yes, our house was one of them.
Wife had to work. Sigh, I shoveled 6 to 7 am, putting most of the snow in front of my neighbours driveway to make a path for her to escape. Oops! Then I went back to bed until a neighbour with power called and invited me over for a great breakfast: beans, bacon, eggs, toutons and COFFEE! Sweet Jesus, it was good.
Then the shoveling began. Driveway is no done but the side and back of house is crazy - it's higher than the fence and the back door is covered. I will probably need the dog to sniff out and dig out the garbage bins! ha
It was nice to see neighbours help each other, snowblowers and shovels going till this evening. I helped an older couple across the cul-de-sac. Their driveway made mine look like I living in Jamacia! I felt like I was living around the bay, not in a city surrounded by stangers.
Time for a cup of tea and back to school work. 2 papers due early next week. Sigh.

BC & AD
Life is certainly different since we got the dog. Therefore, this post is called BC (Before Casey) and AD (after dog).
I didn't realize how selfish I was with my time. But now little moments like taking the creature out to "do" its "business" is becoming normal.
Stormy out today, so I have been out shoveling and fixing the gate to our fence. (note to self and readers -when using a power drill in wet and windy weather, please use protective gloves. No, I didn't draw blood).
The dog watched intently, and started shivering. Now, one time I would have ignored the mutt. Now, I walked to her and let her inside. Ahhh, I think I am getting soft. Tomorrow morning she is getting "done." I guess the puupy in her will be gone, and slower creature will be walking the floors.
And no, I am not talking about me!

34
Today I am 34. Wow.
This morning in bed my wife asked me how I felt and I told her I was comparing myself to my father when he was 34: married for years, 3 kids, well into his teaching career.
I have the marriage (2.5 years in) but the only other things in common is having a dog and beginning our Masters around the same time. But there is NO way I am doing administration. I am staying in the classroom! haha
Of course she said it is a different era, and many people do not get "settled" until they are older. This is coming from my wife, who has always wanted to be a nurse, and was one at 21. She's so sweet. :)
What are my b-day plans? Well, I just returned from updating my license. New photo and a slight change in my weight. ha Then it is off to renew our car insurance. Yes, so exciting. To top it off we may buy a bookcase as my b-day present (too many books on the floor) and then it is back to writing a paper due tomorrow. There may be a beverage or two in between, especially when I am watching "24."
At least I am with my wife here in suburbia. The last 2 b-days I was alone in Churchill.

Thinking of Churchill
I sometimes miss Churchill, even the weather.
Last week I was "herding" some kids to their bus, just wearing an undershirt and dress shirt while all the other teachers were bundled up. I got a few strange looks. It seems 2 winters in northern Manitoba has toughened me.
Of course every time my wife declared, "It's cold outside." here in Mt. Pearl I replied "It's nice out." It really pissed her off and she finally snapped last week. So now when she makes a comment about the weather, I agree with her. I still think that pisses her off...........! :)
A friend informed me of Churchill's latest 3-day blizzard. I don't miss that, and the slight chance of meeting a polar bear as I stumbled home from a game of cards on a very late Friday night. But I do miss the people, the restaurants, but not the gut I had from the food and beer!

bye bye elections
Today there are three by-elections in NL. I keep wondering how many people will turn out, with almost daily revelations of politicans overspending. Will Danny lose seats, or will the lovefest continue as some are grateful that he is "cleaning up da mess?"
Ah, what a tangled web we weave, when we first practice to deceive.
We will find out later tonight!
