haiku poem

blue-tinted glow
humming of the computer
self-imposed deadline

I can't wait for my Masters to be finished. Only SIX more courses to go!

Busy Busy

I have been subbing quite a bit and my 2 courses are coming to a close. Papers due next week. I am looking forward to the month break between semesters to relax and focus on other things.

Wife has great timing - she gave me a cold. She missed work, and I subbed a few days when I should have been in bed, being a sook and asking for soup and tea.

It was the first time we were sick together, and the dog must have felt left out, cause she puked on the floor a few times. Lovely. Fine one day, sick the next. The vet will be visited quite a bit over the years, methinks.

Back to writing about children's literature and curriculum. SO exciting.

Danny v.s. Steve-o

The budget has pissed Danny off, and now he has spent $250,000 of taxpayers money to tell the rest of the country Harper broke his promises and he is not to be trusted.

Really, did that much money have to be spent to inform the country what we already knew about Harper? No.

We are a small province with a small population. I'm sure Harper is more worried about Ontario, Quebec and Alberta when it comes to gaining seats in the next election. As for Danny promoting Liberals instead of Conservatives in the next federal election, I'll believe it when I see it.

With two headstrong leaders butting heads, I think Danny may have bitten off more than he can chew this time. Sure, I am all for "getting our fair share," but the backlash is going to be hell.

Harper's Budget

Well, later today the PCs are releasing their second budget. Release the hounds!!

I don't think it will be that bad, but it is interesting to see Harper already blame the opposition parties for a Spring election if they vote down the budget. Oh my, who will blink first? It will be interesting to see the "goodies" the PCs give out to possibly remain in power.

Get ready for more mud slinging. The campaigns will be dirtier than my dog's paws after digging into my wife's flower garden!

But the real question remains, will our Danny be satisfied? Or will he rant and roar, like a true Newfoundlander (and Labradorian)?

157 Bucks Later...!

The dog was sick all day yesterday. A grumbling belly, no appetite, and generally looking like the saddest dog in the world. Of course wife was working, so I had to take care of the mutt.

Doggy tried to sh*t several times, but was backed up. Wife was worried, so made vet appointment for today, just in case. Doggy finally crapped late last night, which was a relief.

But then she managed to somehow swallow the metal ball in one of her toys! This was not FIVE MINUTES AFTER my wife had made a casual comment on the safety of the toy. Gulp gulp.

Today the dog seems back to "normal" but wife still took her to the vet. 157 bucks later, the x-ray tells us not to worry about it, for it will pass. Maybe I can sell the dog on ebay........!?

Dressing up for coffee

While running a few errands yesterday, I decided to drop by Starbucks in Chapters to get a coffee for my wife and take it to her place of work.

Now, I am simple in my coffee - black. Whenever my wife wants her nonfat, decaf, vanilla latte, extra hot, and grande, I giggle to myself. Why can't the size be small, medium, or large? Really, c'mon!

So as I was waiting for my order to be filled, I looked around. I seemed under dressed in hikers, Columbia jacket, and toque. And scruff. All around me were people dressed very nicely, wearing pretty scarfs, coats, hats, etc. Some were even looking at their laptops, intently. I guess they had no Internet access at home. ha

Starbucks seems to be a very 'social butterfly' place. But at least some people had their kids there, away from computer games!

Books and Shelves

I finally have my two bookcases put together (a belated birthday present), and placed my books in order. Sort of.

I have my short stories, poetry, novels, and university texts separated. As I was doing this, wife just looked at me. "I'm married to a geek," was probably what she was thinking.

With extra space came wife's books. She is into the CSI-type books. I won't be touching them! haha Her nursing books finally get their due, next to my (overpriced) I.T. text books. It was a crime how much I paid for that I.T. Diploma.

As I was finishing, wife asked, "What books have you read?" I think what she REALLY wanted to know was what books had she bought me that I had not read....yet. She has made it clear she is not buying me any more books until I read the ones I already have. Fair enough.

Here is a list of what I need to read:
- The Navigator of New York (Wayne Johnston)
- Alligator (Lisa Moore). half way through....not liking it. Loved her short stories!
- behindlings (Nicola Barker) A Brit. Read her short stories.
- Secrets From the Vinyl Cafe (Stuart Mclean). I know, I know. 2 others read though!
- Book of Longing (Leonard Cohen). Started....like his older work better.

Then there are the books I have bought...!

Some day, some day. After my masters is finished!

Doggy Adventure # 77

Was just about asleep last night, when wife shouted, "The dog is urging!"

Well. The dog was sitting on our bed, and not making ANY attempt to move.

So, naked and without my glasses, I picked up our mutt and ran to the bathroom, arms outstretched. It was a miracle I didn't bang into furniture.

Alas, we did not quite make it. I froze in the bathroom doorway, wondering where to put the dog. The tub? Above the toilet? While the options flashed through my mind, the dog puked. Partly on the floor. And partly on the shower curtain. And when I let her down she puked again, on her blanket.

sigh

At least my wife cleaned up the mess. And back to bed we went.

When the Team You Cheer For Sucks...!

I was raised to be a Montreal Canadien fan in a Toronto Maple Leaf community. Lucky for me it was the 80's and the Leafs sucked while the Habs did OK.

That was then, this is now.

Only recently did I come back into the fold of being a Habs fan. Before then I just wanted a Canadian team to do well. The Habs started the season off decent enough, because their goalie was great. Now he is hurt, and the wheels are falling off. Even TO seems like it has a better chance to make it to the playoff round. Sigh.....when I tell the kids I sub who I cheer for now, I get a few laughs.

So I have started watching the Raptors. Their style of basketball is entertaining...until you realize they have no toughness for rebounding. But at least they are better than last year! Still, they have lost the last 2 games. Maybe I should stop watching the games and go back to seeing the highlights. :)

When it rains, it pours...

So I was worried about not getting enough sub work for a few weeks, and now the phone is ringing off the hook! It will be eight days in row by this upcoming Monday. When I wake up in the mornings, I have to make sure where I am booked or I might drive in the wrong direction! haha

Of course all this work comes on the same week I had a MASSIVE paper due and post online for my classmates to evaluate. But there is nothing to do but suck it up and manage my time better!

back at school work and ignoring the dog.
